Worship at My Footstool (Worship in Spirit and in Truth)

Worship at My footstool

Where peace and love reside

Weary hearts will mend

Sin is put aside

No more need to tarry

No more need to strive

Worship at the pool

By the riverside

Lay all of your burdens

Here beneath My feet

Worship in the quiet

Where brokenness retreats

Psalm 99:5 “Exalt the Lord our God; worship (in the original text this means: wə·hiš·ta·ḥă·wū : bow self down, crouch, fall down flat, humbly beseech, do reverence) at his footstool! Holy is he!” (ESV)

Isaiah 66:1 Thus says the LORD: “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool; what is the house that you would build for me, and what is the place of my rest?” (ESV)

Additional Commentary:

John 4:23-24 “But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” (ESV)

John 4:23-24 “But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers (from the original text: From proskuneo; an adorer) will worship (from the original text: From pros meaning to fawn or crouch to, i.e. literally or figuratively – prostrate oneself in homage – do reverence to, adore) the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship (from the original text: From pros meaning to fawn or crouch to, i.e. literally or figuratively – prostrate oneself in homage – do reverence to, adore) him. God is spirit, and those who worship (from the original text: From pros meaning to fawn or crouch to, i.e. literally or figuratively – prostrate oneself in homage – do reverence to, adore) him must worship (from the original text: From pros meaning to fawn or crouch to, i.e. literally or figuratively – prostrate oneself in homage – do reverence to, adore) in spirit and truth.” (ESV)

*Based on the original text this might also be written in the following way: “But the hour is coming, and is now here, when adorers of God will bow down and prostrate themselves for the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to bow down and adore him. God is spirit, and those who bow down and prostrate themselves before him must do so in spirit and truth.”
